A while ago I reported about the erection of the new
Tamedia building by
Shigeru Ban in Zurich. In a few days, a new
pavilion by Ban, designed to cover the terrace of Villa Wesendonck, Zurich, will open. During the summer months it will be used as cafe, and for theater plays, concerts, and readings. Read the press text
here (in German).

For the structure of the pavilion, Ban establishes the world's first application of structural carbon girders, and combines them with cardboard tubes.

Are you sure about the first usage of carbon structural elements?
I remeber last year was erected in NY a (temporary) pavillon with carbon structure. It was something like a social project, hosting a small theater inside and with tissue curtains hanging from the structure. It was build twice in two different parts of a hot neighborhood. Sorry but I cannot give more than this rough description...

The construction is really nice. Especially, the root gives very attractive look to the place. I really want to visit this place.
